The Hexi-Caddy - £5+VAT

The Hexi-Caddy is a really useful storage caddy designed as a star inside a hexagon, which means you have pockets which pop forwards, plus a bag for anything you don’t want to show off. It has two options as to pocket height, so you can choose what you want to store.

This pattern has a printable template for the inner and outer base. All of the other pieces are rectangles, which you measure and cut yourself.

This is a downloadable PDF pattern sent to your email, not a physical product, and cannot be refunded once purchased.

I have a photo tutorial which goes into detail about how to make and turn a fabric tube. You can find it here. I have also made a short video which demonstrates this technique. Find it on YouTube, here.

  • Finished size approximately: 6” wide x 7” deep x 8” high

    • Each element is finished before being joined together at the end, so no fiddly turning gaps;

    • There are instructions on how to turn a fabric tube using strong cord, making it a simple process;

    • The two pocket options are 3 1/2” or 4 3/4” high

    • The base is cut from two pattern pieces, to get the correct shape;

    • The base is finished off using a self-binding technique, which makes the bag stand up, even when filled

    • The pockets pop outward, and the top of the bag is pulled in, so you can fill up the centre of the bag even when the pockets are full.

  • You will need: Cotton fabrics, fusible interfacing, fusible fleece (I have used Vlieseline low loft volume fleece), 3mm - 5mm cord, fabric marker, strong cord, such as a waxed linen thread

    Optional extras: ¼” machine foot, fabric glue stick, hump jumper, awl

  • All fabrics: Quilting weight cotton

    Fusible Interfacing: Any woven or non-woven medium weight fusible interfacing

    Fusible Fleece: Vlieseline H630 low loft fusible fleece; Pellon fusible fleece, or similar

    Cord: 3mm to 5mm cord. I used a macrame cord as it is available in lots of colours.

  • The PDF comes as two separate files. The first contains a simple, six-step tutorial with fourteen photos, enhanced with graphics to make them easier to understand. The second file contains the pattern pieces, ready for you to cut out and use. This pattern is mostly made of of rectangles, and you are given the measurements so that you can cut them out with your favourite quilting rulers. All sizes are in inches.

    INCLUDED:

    • A list of all of the materials and quantities you need to complete the project;

    • Instructions on how to cut and prepare the fabrics;

    • Step-by-step instructions including photos of each step;

    • Photo tutorial and pattern pieces ready for printing
