Fabric tool basket with strap, interior pleated pockets, elastic loops, and exterior pockets.

The Handy Hobby Basket is a fabric basket designed with extra structure so that you can keep all of your tools nearby when you work.

If you are like me, you have tried a number of different hobbies over the years. Jewellery making, gardening, paper-crafting, they all use tools that are a little bit on the heavy side. This basket can take them! Hidden inside are dowels and a hard base, which add structure, and mean that you can use it for hammers, hand saws, punches, and any other hand tool you might want to store. You have a choice of interior pockets, plus two exterior pockets which also act as strap connectors for the attached handle.

This pattern has a full tutorial video, which follows along each step. It is free to watch on YouTube. You can watch it here.

This is a downloadable PDF pattern sent to your email, not a physical product, and cannot be refunded once purchased.

I have a FREE download going into more detail about preparing foam stabiliser. You can find it here.

  • Finished size:

    Finished size: 13” wide x 7" deep x 5” high

  • The Handy Hobby Basket has two exterior pockets, and a choice of interior pockets:

    • Pleated pockets on the sides, with an option to make four sections or two, using the same pattern piece

    • Elastic loops at each end, with the choice of two or four stitching lines

The exterior has two shaped slip pockets, one each end, and these also act as strap connectors.

The structure is created by adding a rigid base inside, and dowels tucked into the top contrast.

As usual, the pattern pieces are marked with dots and notches, which match up to give you an accurate finish.
