Hanging Half-Buckets - £5+VAT

We all need more storage, but where to put it? These flat-backed half buckets are designed to hang on the wall, so don’t clutter up your desk.

Each Hanging Half-Bucket has two loops, so you can hang them from hooks on the wall. You also have the option of sewing buttons on the back, so that you can button them together and hang them as a column from just the one set of hooks. Another useful option is to hang them on a pegboard.

This pattern includes three sizes, and is marked to help you sew a neat curved base. All of the pattern pieces are included, apart from the rectangles, which you can cut yourself with your favourite quilt rulers.

These half-buckets make great thread catchers, and I have included buttons to hang one in my Sew Organised Pincushion PDF pattern. You can buy it here.

This is a downloadable PDF pattern sent to your email, not a physical product.

PDF Pattern - £5.00 plus local taxes or VAT (press button to see price in your local currency)

  • All three sizes, finished size at base: 4 ½” w x 2 ¼”d
    Size A: 6 ¾” w x 6” h x 3 ½” d
    Size B: 6 ¼” w x 4 ½” h x 3” d
    Size C: 5 ½” w x 3” h x 2 ¾” d
Total height for all three hanging: 17”

    • Three sizes included, all with the same base piece

    • The back has a slot to add a stiffener, to help the bucket keep its shape when full

    • The base and side pieces are marked with lines which match up to give you an even shape

    • These half buckets use a combination of Decovil light plus batting, but you could swap those out for foam stabiliser. Adjust the lining seam allowance to get a better fit for the lining

    • You can add a Hanging Half Bucket to the Sew Organised Pincushion as a thread catcher. I used the middle size.

  • You will need: (width x length)

If making all three sizes in one fabric:

Quilting weight cotton: one fat quarter for the outer and one fat quarter for the lining.

    Batting or fusible fleece: 20” x 15”

    Decovil Light: 20” x 15”

    Fusible Interfacing: 30” x 40”

    4 buttons

    Bag grid or stiff board: 2 pieces 4 ½” x 1”, and 1 piece 4” x 1”

For each individual size, you will need:

Size A takes 20” x 9” of fabric, plus 20” x 7” each of lining, Decovil Light, and batting, and 20” x 12” of fusible interfacing

Size B takes 20” x 10” of fabric, plus 20” x 8” each of lining, Decovil Light, and batting, and 20” x 14” of fusible interfacing

Size C takes 20” x 10” of fabric, plus 20” x 10” each of lining, Decovil Light, and batting, and 20” x 18” of fusible interfacing

You will also need: a fabric marker, fabric glue (if using batting)

Optional extras: ¼” machine foot, open-toed machine foot, pinking shears, dressmaker’s carbon paper

  • Outer: Cotton quilting weight fabric, cotton canvas, denim

    Lining: Cotton quilting weight fabric

Stiffener: Decovil light plus any quilt batting, or foam stabiliser

Back stiffener: Plastic gridded canvas, thin cutting mat, Pellon Peltex

Buttons: 1/2” or bigger, preferably with a shank, to allow for the thickness of the loop. If you use buttons without a shank, add your own thread shank.

  • The PDF comes as two separate files. The first contains a simple, six-step tutorial with fourteen photos, enhanced with graphics to make it clearer to understand. The second file contains the shaped pattern pieces for you to cut out. The back support piece and hanging loops are rectangles that you cut out using your favourite quilting rulers and a rotary cutter. All measurements are in inches.

    INCLUDED:

    • A list of all the materials and quantities you need to complete the project;

    • Instructions on how to cut and prepare the fabrics;

    • Step-by-step instructions including photos of each step

    • Photo tutorial and pattern pieces ready for printing

    • You may sell the finished items on a small handmade scale, but please do not mass produce

    • Please note, there are no refunds on instant download patterns after downloading
