The Fabulous Fifties Frame Bag is a cute evening purse inspired by the 1950s. Those little bags were so elegant! This is an update inspired by the needs of today’s world.

Although this bag has a delicate shape, it is deep enough inside to carry your mobile phone, payment card, and car keys, as well as any little items you need for the evening. And best of all, when you have finished with the bag, you can remove the base and store it flat! Ideal for travel.

This version of the Fabulous Fifties Frame Bag is an update on the original pattern, and has several improvements:

• Full printable pieces for every piece

• New two part lining, for less bulk and a neater fit

• The size has been tweaked to fit a bigger range of 6” sew-in rectangle frames

• This version now uses fusible fleece instead of curtain interlining

• The instructions for sewing on the frame have been improved so that your stitching is concealed on the inside.

  Sundries needed: hump jumper, fabric marker, point turner, small pliers

• Suggested Fabrics

  Fabrics A and B: Cotton quilting weight fabrics; velvet; silk dupion; lightweight faux leather;

  Lining: Cotton quilting weight fabrics; silk dupion; acetate lining;

  Fusible interfacing: Any medium weight fusible interfacing, woven or non-woven

  Fusible Fleece: Vlieseline H630 low loft fusible fleece; Pellon fusible fleece, or similar

  Stiffener: Vlieseline Decovil Light; Pellon 525 Decovil Light

  Bag base: Gridded plastic canvas; Pellon peltex; thin cutting mats

  Sew-in purse frame: I have used both a simple silver-coloured frame and an embossed antique gold frame for this bag. They were both classed as 6" frames, but varied slightly in their actual dimensions. This pattern is designed so that the front panel will fit easily into the top of the frame, then the rest of the bag eases in. Make sure your frame has two loops at the top of the frame, to attach your handle.

  Glass beads: Seed beads or similar, size 8 or 9; Miyuki Delicas size 10; Crystal beads. Plain silver frames have a distance of 􀁉1/8" between holes, while the antique brass frames have a distance of 3/16" between holes.

  The PDF comes as two separate files. The first contains a simple, six-step tutorial with twenty photos, enhanced with graphics to make it clearer to understand. The second file contains full pattern pieces, ready for you to cut out and use.
